Shilpa started her career in the television industry in the year 2001 with the show Kabhi Aaye Na Judaai with the role of Amrita. But she came into the spotlight with the show Bhabhi (2002- 2008) and then, later on, worked on various other shows such as Amarpali (2002), Hatim (2003), Miss India (2004), and many more. Shilpa debuted in the film industry with the Telugu movie Chinna in the year 2001 and has also worked in the movie Shivani which was directed by Suresh Verma.

Her breakthrough role was as Koyal Narayan in the SAB TV show Chidiya Ghar (2011) where she starred opposite Paresh Ganatra. The other role that got her most popular was the role of Angoori Bhabhi where she played the lead role in the sitcom TV show Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hai in the year 2005, she became a popular face in every household after that.

In 2017, she participated in the Colors TV Show Big Boss Season 11, with popular contestants like Hina Khan, Vikas Gupta, Priyank Sharma, and many more. She won the title of Big Boss 11 against Hina Khan in the grand finale. In 2022, she made her comeback again after five years to the television industry by participating in the Colors TV dance show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.
