Sona Mohapatra was born on June 17, 1976, in Cuttack, Odisha to father Dilip and mother Nayantara Mohapatra. He belongs to high class well educated family. In very earlier age she traveled all over india from village to big city because of father itinerant job.
She learned in Indian classical music for over 12 years, these constant moves makes her not influenced by any one particular music. She developed her own unique style. Each of the places became a part of her, imprinting their sights and sounds and music to her aesthetic palate.
She is B. tech graduated from College of Engineering and Technology, Bhubaneswar in Instrumentation & Electronics Engineering. after that sona also did post graduation in MBA from Symbiosis Centre for Management & HRD, Pune in marketing & Systems.

The most famous and popular singer of Indian, Sona Mahapatra starts his career not as singer but as brand manager in Marico (an Indian consumer goods company providing consumer products) at end of 2002. during this she manage popular indian brands like Mediker and Parachute.
Sona starts his music journey with a jingle of Tata salt. later she get a chance to sing a song in Bollywood movie “Family” in 2006. after that Sona formed her first band in this city and also teamed up with Ram Sampath (Her future husband), to release her solo debut album on SONY music. This album went on to win all the awards in its category in the year 2007.
